Statement of Philosophy:
People seek an herbalists’ services for a variety of reasons, including help with an existing disorder, prevention of seasonal ailments, healthy maintenance of stress, and/or to strengthen their overall constitution. At The Green Bough clinic, we approach people and plants with an idea of wholeness. In treating a person, not merely the disease, we are interested in, not only your physical well-being, but also your mental and emotional wellness.
When you work with one of our practitioners, we follow a number of steps to ensure the most effective care. During your first exam, a detailed health history will be taken and, in many cases, a physical exam will be given. The questions on the history allow us to use our knowledge of constitutional theory, body systems, and medicinal plants and dietary supplements to address you concerns in a wholistic manner. Some of the questions are personal in nature, but all of your information is kept absolutely confidential. In fact, we don’t even share your info with another health professional without your written consent. During a physical exam we take your vital signs: temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and rate of respiration. We will also take a look at your tongue. Follow-up appointments are shorter, primarily focusing on changes in formulas and assessment of progress. Overall, an appointment is primarily conversational. Body therapies, however, are incorporated whenever appropriate.
As an additional part of your appointment, we may mix up an herbal formula to address your health concerns. We also may give nutritional information, suggestions on lifestyle changes, and emotional support. If we feel that your health concerns are outside of the scope of care we provide, we are happy to refer you on. Your health is of utmost importance to us.
Herbalism is not currently licensed by the state of California. Our services are complimentary in nature. We are not medical doctors. We cannot diagnose nor can we recommend the discontinuance of drugs or controlled substances prescribed by the appropriately licensed medical doctor or practitioner. It is of utmost importance that you disclose any internal medicines you are on as herbs can combine badly with a number of natural and pharmaceutical medications. Some people have allergic responses to particular herbs, so please let us know immediately if you have any uncomfortable side effects such as nausea, vomit, diarrhea, rash/skin reaction. Please, if you have an emergency, call 9-1-1.
